Sustain · Stage 09
Follow-up audit
and verification.
Independent verification that corrective actions were implemented, that they work under real operating conditions, and that improvements are sustainable.
What the Follow-Up Audit Verifies
Implemented is not
the same as effective
A corrective action can be completed on paper without changing anything on board. The follow-up audit checks both: whether each action was implemented, and whether it has resolved the original finding.
It closes the EDAERO cycle and, where needed, starts the next one — with recurring issues identified and fed back into design and training.
Finding status after verification
- Closed — effectiveImplemented, evidenced and working in practice.
- Implemented — not yet effectiveAction taken, but the finding persists; revised action required.
- OpenNot yet implemented; target date reviewed.
- RecurringPreviously closed, now observed again; root cause re-examined.

Operational Challenges Addressed
Why verification matters
Paper closure
Actions marked complete in a log without evidence they changed practice.
Slow drift
Standards hold for a few months, then fade as crews and priorities change.
No external check
Internal teams too close to the operation to see what has slipped.
Areas of Verification
What is checked
Corrective action verification
Each action reviewed against the original finding and agreed plan.
Documentation review
Amended manuals, SOPs and forms checked for issue, distribution and use.
Implementation evidence
Records, observation and interviews confirming practice has changed.
Crew performance reassessment
Sampled practical reassessment where findings concerned competence.
Closure of findings
Findings closed only on evidence of effectiveness.
Recurring issues
Patterns identified across findings, bases or crews.
Management reporting
Status of every finding, stated clearly for leadership.
Continuous improvement
Recommendations for the next cycle of improvement.
Methodology
Evidence-based closure
Plan
Confirm findings in scope, evidence required and sampling.
Review evidence
Documents, records and corrective action log.
Verify on site
Observation, interviews and sampled reassessment.
Determine status
Each finding classified as closed, not yet effective, open or recurring.
Report
Management report with next-cycle recommendations.
Expected Deliverables
A clear status for
every finding
Scope-dependent. Normally linked to a prior EDAERO Cabin Operations Audit; can also verify actions from an operator's own internal audit.
- Follow-Up Audit ReportStatus and evidence for every original finding.
- Updated corrective action logRevised actions, owners and dates where required.
- Recurring-issue analysisPatterns and root causes across the operation.
- Continuous improvement recommendationsPriorities for the next cycle.
Operational Benefits
What changes
in the operation
- Confidence that corrective actions work
- Early detection of drift and recurring issues
- Objective evidence of improvement over time
- A clear starting point for the next cycle
Who It Is For
Designed for
operators
For operators that want improvements verified, not assumed.
- Operators with an existing EDAERO audit
- Operators with internal audit findings to verify
- Corporate flight departments reporting to boards
- Aircraft management companies reporting to owners
Frequently Asked Questions
Before you enquire
When should a follow-up audit take place?
Typically three to twelve months after the corrective action plan is agreed, depending on the target dates of the high-priority actions.
Is it a full repeat of the original audit?
No. It focuses on the original findings and the corrective actions, with sampling of the wider operation to detect new or recurring issues. A full re-audit can be scoped when comparability over time is the goal.
What if an action was implemented but did not work?
It is recorded as implemented but not effective, with the evidence, and a revised action is recommended. Closing a finding requires evidence of effectiveness, not only completion.
